WSRPD Mission Statement
"The purpose of the West Side Recreation & Park District is to provide a well-rounded, wholesome program of leisure time activities for people residing in the District. This may be accomplished by acquisition and development of park and recreation center areas, the development of supervised programs, construction and management of recreation facilities, and cooperative efforts with other agencies in the areas in which they provide like services."

West Side Recreation and Park District Receives $100,000 to Boost Community Programs and Underwrite New Gymnasium

TAFT, CA - The West Side Recreation and Park District (WSRPD) is pleased to announce a $100,000 grant from the Aera Energy Fund of the Kern Community Foundation. The funds will help underwrite construction costs for the gymnasium under construction at the district’s new recreational center and provide additional funding for the district’s S.T.O.P. Program, which provides scholarships to assist local families with fees associated with participation in WSRPD programs. The new gym will be called the Aera Energy Gymnasium.

“We are pleased to sponsor this grant in support of the West Side Recreation and Park District. The district has a long-standing tradition of providing a wide range of services for all ages,” says Jeff Dittman, Aera Energy LLC vice president – operations. “With nearly 90% of the families in Taft and surrounding communities participating in its programs, the district is a very important community resource.”

Football practice and soccer too

There are always lots of things to do.

Parks are the best place to run and play,

Fun with friends on a sunny day.

Lay on the grass and watch the clouds

as they form into different shapes.

See the elephant, there's a boat

now sit back and watch them float.

Without parks life would be sad

Officials from Aera Energy were onhand at the District's Ponytail Softball Opening Ceremonies on April 9, 2011 to present the District with a check for $100,000 to assist with a new gymnasium and to help fund the STOP Scholarship program.
